Joint Technology Initiatives
A new concept for public-private business co-operation
Joint Technology Initiatives are proposed as a means to implement the Strategic Research Agendas (SRAs) of a limited number of European Technology Platforms (ETPs). In these cases, the scale and scope of the objectives is such that loose co-ordination through ETPs and support through the regular instruments of FP7 are not sufficient.
To meet the needs of this small number of ETPs, the concept of "Joint Technology Initiatives" has been developed comprising long-term public-private partnerships. JTIs issue call for proposals as one of the means to implement their SRAs. Six in all are proposed and five have been established:
- Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI)
- Embedded Computing Systems (ARTEMIS)
- Aeronautics and Air Transport (Clean Sky)
- Nanoelectronics Technologies 2020 (ENIAC)
- Fuel Cells and Hydrogen (FCH)
- Global Monitoring for Environment and Security (GMES)
